Introduction: hydronyms are among the most stable elements of toponymy, often preserving traces of ancient settlement and economic activity. in the Bukhara region, microtoponyms with components such as ariq, arna, and ariqcha reflect the historical importance of irrigation systems in shaping local geography and culture. Purpose: to classify and analyze hydronymic microtoponyms of the Bukhara oasis, focusing on their semantic meanings, etymological origins, and relation to irrigation terminology. Materials and Methods: the study uses descriptive and comparative methods of toponymic analysis. linguistic data are drawn from field materials and historical sources, with attention to the Turkic lexical layer and its integration into irrigation-related terminology. Results and Discussion: findings show that names such as Rabotisariq (โfortress canalโ), Odoqariq (โcanal near Odoqโ), Bashariq (โmain canalโ), Arna, and Tarnavut preserve evidence of ancient water management practices. the semantic structure of these names highlights the role of canals and irrigation in sustaining agriculture and settlement. etymological analysis confirms their connection to Turkic roots, while stylistic examination reveals their function as cultural markers of collective memory. Conclusion: hydronymic microtoponyms of the Bukhara region embody the historical and cultural significance of irrigation systems. their semantic and etymological features demonstrate the continuity of water-related terminology in local toponymy, making them an essential resource for understanding the linguistic and cultural heritage of the oasis.
