INTRODUCTION
the study highlights the role of techniques such as drawing, clay modeling, and fairy-tale therapy in restoring children's psychological balance. The results indicate that the art-therapeutic approach improves students' adaptation to school and enhances their creative potential.
AIM
to identify the cognitive barriers and emotional challenges encountered by primary school students and to scientifically substantiate the pedagogical and psychological potential of art therapy methods (such as isotherapy, sand therapy, and clay therapy) in overcoming these difficulties, while developing practical recommendations for educators.
DISCUSSION AND RESULTS
according to famous pedagogue F. Hernandez, "Schools are the main key in developing critical thinking among citizens." In fact, critical thinking has become as important as learning and reading today. Our findings demonstrate that art therapy effectively supports this goal. By overcoming emotional barriers like anxiety and improving cognitive focus, art therapy provides the essential psychological balance young learners need to develop critical thinking and successfully adapt to the educational environment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
the research process utilized a combination of interviews, questionnaires, behavioral observations, analysis of creative materials, and statistical analysis.
CONCLUSION
in conclusion, art therapy is an effective method for overcoming cognitive and emotional difficulties among primary school students. Its application improves the quality of education and supports the holistic development of the child’s personality.

The contemporary educational landscape demands significantly more from young learners than merely the acquisition of basic literacy and numeracy skills. As children transition into the structured environment of primary education, they are immediately confronted with a myriad of cognitive and emotional challenges that fundamentally shape their academic trajectory and psychological well-being. The primary school years represent a critical developmental period where the foundation for lifelong learning, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence is established. However, this transition is rarely seamless. Many children experience profound difficulties in adapting to the rigorous demands of the classroom, manifesting in various cognitive barriers and emotional distress. Cognitive challenges frequently emerge in the form of diminished attention spans, working memory deficits, and difficulties in sequential and logical reasoning. Concurrently, emotional challenges such as heightened anxiety, social withdrawal, aggressive behaviors, and low self-esteem create significant impediments to effective learning. Traditional pedagogical approaches, which often prioritize rote memorization and standardized testing, frequently fail to address these underlying psychological barriers.
Consequently, there is an urgent need within the field of pedagogy and developmental psychology to integrate holistic, non-threatening, and highly engaging interventions. Art therapy has emerged as a profoundly effective pedagogical tool in this regard, offering a multidimensional approach to child development that transcends the limitations of conventional instructional methods by facilitating a safe, expressive medium through which children can externalize internal conflicts, process complex emotions, and restructure cognitive frameworks.
From a neurodevelopmental perspective, engaging in creative activities stimulates bilateral brain function, integrating the analytical, logical processes of the left hemisphere with the spatial, emotional, and intuitive processes of the right hemisphere. This neural integration is essential for overcoming cognitive deficits. Art therapy provides a focused, sensory-rich experience that naturally commands attention without the stress of academic evaluation. When a child is engaged in drawing or sculpting, they enter a state of flow, and this practice of sustained attention gradually translates into improved focus during traditional academic tasks. Furthermore, the tactile engagement inherent in artmaking directly stimulates the development of fine motor skills, neurologically linked to language and cognitive processing centers. Isotherapy, or the therapeutic use of drawing, is particularly effective. When a young learner draws, they translate threedimensional concepts into two-dimensional representations, an exercise that significantly enhances spatial-visual reasoning, memory recall, and executive functioning. For children who struggle with verbal articulation, drawing serves as an alternative visual vocabulary through which they can communicate complex ideas and emotions. A child experiencing anxiety regarding school performance may externalize these fears through specific colors and spatial arrangements, rendering the emotion manageable and allowing them to regain control over their internal environment.
Similarly, clay therapy offers profound therapeutic benefits, particularly for emotional regulation and stress reduction. The physical manipulation of clay provides a kinesthetic outlet for pent-up physical energy and aggressive impulses. Children experiencing behavioral difficulties often lack constructive mechanisms for releasing frustration, and the tactile resistance of clay absorbs this energy safely, preventing disruptive classroom outbursts.
Beyond its cathartic properties, clay therapy is deeply grounding. The rich sensory feedback stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, inducing a calming effect that counteracts anxiety. As the child transforms clay into a defined object, they experience a tangible sense of mastery, instrumental in rebuilding self-esteem. The three-dimensional nature of clay modeling also impacts cognitive development, specifically in spatial awareness, planning, and problem-solving. Another vital component is the utilization of collage and mixed-media techniques. Collage lowers the barrier to entry for creative expression by utilizing pre-existing images. The process of selecting and arranging disparate elements into a cohesive whole serves as a powerful psychological metaphor for internal integration and cognitive organization.
This narrative construction is closely tied to fairy-tale therapy, enabling children to project their own struggles onto fictional characters and explore coping mechanisms in a safe, imaginative space, thereby developing psychological resilience and cognitive flexibility.
The pedagogical implications of integrating these art-therapeutic modalities are deeply transformative, requiring a paradigm shift in how educators perceive art. Activities must remain entirely free from rigid academic evaluation or aesthetic criticism. The efficacy of art therapy is contingent upon a psychologically safe environment where children feel uninhibited. The teacher must act as an empathetic facilitator, focusing exclusively on the process rather than the final product. Engaging the child through openended questions about their artwork validates their emotional reality and bridges the gap between non-verbal expression and verbal communication, enhancing emotional granularity. The systemic integration of art therapy also addresses inclusivity, providing an equitable platform for neurodivergent children and diverse learning styles. Ultimately, the utilization of art therapy represents a humanistic commitment to holistic child development.
By systematically and creatively addressing the anxieties and cognitive blockages that hinder young learners, educators unlock their latent potential for critical thinking. This strategic implementation transforms the classroom into a dynamic laboratory of selfdiscovery, ensuring that every child is equipped with the profound emotional resilience and cognitive adaptability required to successfully navigate the complexities of life.
