Abstract: This article examines the development of tennis in Uzbekistan during the years of independence, including the development of tennis in the Kashkadarya region, the construction of modern tennis courts, the material and technical base and the formation of qualified coaches.

Tennis, which appeared in Europe at the end of the 19th century, quickly spread to the world and was included in the Olympic Games. Tennis was included in the program of the 1896 Olympic Games. In 1912, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) was founded. In 1965, the International Association of Professional Tennis Players (IART) was established, which was transformed into the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATR) in 1972.

Games similar to tennis have been played in Uzbekistan since ancient times. In particular, the folk game "one stick" has features typical of tennis. Modern tennis entered Uzbekistan at the beginning of the 20th century[3:1492-1495]. Tennis players such as V. Pushkarev, Sh.Chebatarev, S. Obidov, R. Yalalova successfully participated and fulfilled the requirement of master of sports. Tennis in our republic has developed sharply since the last decade of the 20th century. Modern tennis courts were built in almost all cities of Uzbekistan that gained independence [4:135-138]. These sports facilities in the cities of Tashkent, Karshi, Fergana, Samarkand, Namangan, Andijan have all the amenities for tennis players and tennis fans. In 1992, the Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan was established, and in the same year it was accepted as a member of the ITF. Since 1994, Uzbekistan joined Davis Cup competitions, our tennis players began to participate in the Asian Games, continental championships, Olympics and other [5:1- 6] international competitions. The "President's Cup" international competition among professional tennis players was held in Tashkent in 1994, which started the period of growth of this sport in Uzbekistan. Later, this competition was included in the ATR tour, and the world's strongest [6:96-100] tennis players visited the capital of Uzbekistan. In 1996, the Challenger competitions among women were founded in Tashkent and took place among the competitions of the WTA series. Futures and Challenger competitions were also held in regional centers. In 1997, the beginning of "Havas" competitions among leading amateur tennis players [7:121-123] played an important role in the popularization of tennis. On August 25, 1997, the Cabinet of Ministers "On the establishment of a fund to support the development of tennis in the Republic of Uzbekistan" and on September 11, 1998, "Measures for the further development of tennis in the Republic of Uzbekistan" on" created favorable conditions for the development of tennis. "Tennis" newspaper was published on March 20, 1998. Since 2001, Uzbekistan Cup competitions have been held between regional teams according to the Davis Cup format. International women's tournaments "Tashkent Open", as well as international tournaments such as "Challenger", "Futures" and "Satellite" have been held in the cities of Fergana, Samarkand, Gulistan, Bukhara, Karshi. I. Tolaganova, V. Kutsenko, O. Ogorodov, I. Israilova, O. Omonmurodova became winners and prize-winners at the Asian Games, the Continental Championship, the Universiade, and international competitions. Coaches such as V. Pushkarev, A. Yolkhin, F. Sultonbekov, H. Shafikov contributed to the victory of these tennis players. The decision of the First President Islam Karimov on April 29, 2008 "On the establishment of the Tennis School of the Olympic Reserves of the Republic" is aimed at creating the necessary conditions for the education and training of high-level [8:128- 131] tennis players, their sports is an important factor in improving skills. During the past time, the necessary modern material and technical base and the composition of qualified coaches were formed in the Tennis School of the Republican Olympic Reserves for the training of high-class tennis players. At this school, 60 young athletes, selected from among the talented young men and women who have undergone initial training in the country's tennis clubs and sports schools, are diligently learning the secrets of tennis.

In the years of independence, activities were also carried out to popularize the sport of tennis. International tennis tournaments were organized several times in a number of cities of Uzbekistan. In 2000, the international tennis tournament "Tashkent Open" was held in Tashkent, in which Okgul Omonmurdova, Iroda Tolaganova took an active part[1].

In 2002, the Uzbekistan Cup in tennis was held in Samarkand [9:128-132] region. In it, the tennis team of our region defeated the team of Samarkand region and took the 3rd place.

In 2005, the next tennis tournament included in the ITF calendar was held at the special tennis stadium in Karshi. The tournament, which has been held regularly since 1998, was attended by representatives of 12 countries from 4 continents, more than 100 athletes, coaches, officials of the International Tennis Federation, and guests. Among our 7 athletes defending the honor of our country in the tournament with an incentive fund of 15,000 US dollars [10:73-76] are tennis players from Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, India, Latvia, Chinese Taipei, Great Britain, and the Republic of South Africa they fought for the main prize. The most important thing is that tennis players who participated successfully added valuable points to their ratings in the ITF calendar. This served as a unique ticket to other major professional tennis tournaments. According to the draw, 32 athletes participated in individual competitions. Our compatriot Akmal Sharipov, who was the last [11] to join them through the qualifying stage, showed that he is a very talented player. First, he defeated his compatriot Vaja Uzokov in two sets - 6:2. In the second round, he won over Chinese Ti Chen, who is considered the second player of the tournament. Denis Matsukevich from Russia could not withstand his strong "aces" and tactical skills in the quarterfinals - 6:1, 2:6, 6:4[2].

The international "Futures" tennis tournament held in Karshi in 2005 was completely different from others. It is noteworthy that the Uzbek boys Denis Istomin and Murad Inoyatov took part in the doubles final for the first time, and two Uzbek boys Denis Istomin and Akmal Sharipov met in the singles final. This has never happened in the history of Karshi "futures" tournaments. In general [12:59-63], the tournament was full of unexpected results. Many experts predicted that Russian Igor Kunitsin or Chinese Ti Chen would win the tournament. In addition to them, Russian Kiril Ivanov Smolensky (287 places in the ITF calendar), Alexander Markin (297), Great Britain's James Aikland (351) were expected to reach the finals. But none of them lived up to the predictions in individual competitions. The main reason for this was the excellent performance of young Uzbek tennis players. For example, Akmal Sharipov, who joined the main group only after the qualifying round [13:73-76], defeated Ti Chen, the second player of the tournament, in the second round without leaving any chance. Sarvar Ikramov, who is ranked 1113 according to the calendar of the International Tennis Federation, forced James Aikland to surrender in the second round. In the semifinals, another tennis player Denis Istomin defeated experienced Russian Andrey Stolyarov in three sets - 6:4, 6:7, 6:3. It is interesting that Stolyarov, who lost the match in the first set, fought hard to win the second set. In the end, that's what happened. But this victory was very expensive: it seems that he spent a lot of effort in 6 tie-breaks, and in the third set he was almost unable to resist his opponent. In the quarter finals, Sharipov defeated Russian Denis Matsukevich in three sets: - 6:1, 2:6, 6:4. And Istomin beat Ivanov-Smolensky in a very difficult match [14:86-90] - 7:6, (7), 6:7 (0), 6:3.

In the semi-finals, Istomin, who is ranked 707th in the ITF calendar, faced Igor Kunitsin, the first racket player of the tournament (192nd place). Encouraged by his previous victories, Denis spent this competition in a high mood and defeated his opponent in three sets - 6:3, 6:7, 6:4 and qualified for the final. Stolyarov (8), IvanovSmolensky (3) and Kunitsinlar (1), who entered the top eight of the tournament, surrendered to Denis. In addition to Ti Chen, the representative of the Russian Federation Alexander Markin (4) also lost to Sharipov - 6:3, 6:1.

Two Uzbek talents who created sensation after sensation competed against each other in the final [15:386-391]. Denis Istomin won the match in a beautiful way - 6:3, 6:2.

No one estimated the capabilities of the Uzbek duets of Denis Istomin and Murad Inoyatov in the doubles competition. But they once again proved that real talents are developing in our country, where sports are conducted at the level of state policy[16:292-296]. First, they defeated the Alexander Markin-Alexander Pavlyuchenko duo - 7:6, 6:1, then the Kasatkin-Kravchuk pair (7:5, 7:6) could not withstand their strong and accurate shots, and in the semifinals, the MatsukevichSmirnov pair could not withstand them - 6 :3, 6:2. Only in the final match did Murad and Denis lose to the more experienced Kunitsin-Demykhin couple in a fierce fight - 4:6, 7:5, 4:6. Nevertheless, the Uzbek couple made a very good impression. Experts say that their opportunities are huge, but this time they lacked only experience[17].

In August 2005, tennis competitions for the third place of the Cup of Uzbekistan[19:26-28] were held at the central tennis court in Karshi. The sportsmen of our region took on the Bukhara team and won 3-2. Among our tennis players, Alexey Nomozov, Sanjar Shodiyev, Marcel Idrisov, Suhrob Toirov were among the winners of the competition and were awarded with a bronze medal.

On September 18, 2010, the international women's tournament "Tashkent Open" began in Tashkent. A prize of 220,000 dollars was awarded in the tournament. This international tennis competition was attended by world-class tennis players such as Yelena Dementyeva, Anastasia Myskina, Dinara Safina (Russia), Francesca Skyavona (Italy), Dominika Sibulkova (Slovakia), Lena and Katerina Boldarenko (Ukraine), Sana Mirza (India).
