A scientific journal is a periodical (printed or electronic) belonging to scientific literature and being one of the key sources of up-to-date scientific information. As a rule, such journals are peer-reviewed: all articles are checked by independent experts in the relevant fields before publication. This ensures the high quality and reliability of scientific publications.

In Uzbekistan, as in other countries, a system for accrediting scientific publications is in place to raise the level of scientific research. Journals are included in national and international lists, and publications in them are taken into account when defending dissertations and awarding academic degrees.

Today, most scientific journals in the region remain printed with limited circulation, which complicates the work of researchers who need constant access to modern scientific results.
