this article examines the compensatory and formative potential of 20th-century fiction within the context of cognitive and value-based transformations driven by the digital environment. Drawing on S. Ahmad’s Horizon, Ch. Aitmatov’s Face to Face, and V. Rasputin’s Live and Remember, the study identifies narrative mechanisms that counteract algorithmic attention fragmentation, digital amnesia, and ethical relativism. An original scientific and methodological framework is proposed – the Narrative-Ethical Anchoring Model (NEAM) – which operationalizes the interaction of cognitive, empathic, and mnemonic reading functions under conditions of digital mediation. The study substantiates the necessity of integrating pre-digital texts into digital literacy and ethical education programs, supported by rigorous arguments from cognitive literary studies and the sociology of digital culture.
